top tip for new gif people because i've seen a few recently (which is really cool) - tumblr will compress your gif to a width of 540px when you upload it. this compression won't retain as much quality as if you just resize it to 540px across in photoshop/whatever program you use. tumblr will suck the life out of your beautiful crisp 1080px gif whereas photoshop will do its best not to (resizing in vapoursynth or similar is ideal but that's not necessary and often too much effort for adults with real lives)
#i learnt all of this during covid as a teen with a sunday job so that's why i could afford to care#also 540px is if you've got one gif per row#2 gifs per row should be resized to a width of 268px each#and 3 per row is 177px - 178px - 177px#height doesn't matter#you can google tumblr gif dimensions for a diagram but there are a few from before they increased the width in photo posts so lots of#conflicting info there#these are the correct ones#it's personal preference whether to resize ofc but the vast majority of people do#also whilst i'm yapping here#photoshop can do stuff that other software or online platforms can't#obviously use whichever one you prefer or have access to - it really doesn't matter#the more gifs the better#yay#but if there's something you've seen other people do that you can't figure out#and you're not using photoshop#chances are the other person is.#there are good alternatives like photopea but that still doesn't quite match ps#saying this bc i had a small phase of being quite discouraged as a 17yo md/zs fan from looking at all the online options and realising that#none of them had the capabilities to create the kind of gfx that i saw other people making and wanted to try out myself#ofc there's a learning curve too and LOTS to get wrong then try again but there is also the insurmountable difference between ps and#online alternatives. i hope it doesn't put people off from trying#keep at it with whatever program you've got your hands on#and if you really want photoshop. well. cough š“āā ļøš“āā ļøš“āā ļøš“āā ļø cough#excuse me what was i saying#i cant remember bye have fun

#my art#wip#bocchiposting#i wholly underestimated the amount of tweening needed and the amount of layers#originally i wanted to cover the entire song with parts for kita and bocchi#but given my current health condition + having work i think i'll just finish small chunks first and then see how much i can do b4 school#i can definitely finish the intro but i really want to draw in bocchi for a specific part sdjfhdskfjks#unfortunately i currently have the constitution of a sick victorian child! going into my final week of classes and we always have one last week after the final paper (so the professors have time for grading) where typically the only work we have is one last discussion post.
usually, this post is pretty simple and light (to go easy on us after the final). my ethics class is like āsummarize your conclusions from your final paper! :)ā and my communications class is like ātell the class about your career goals! :)ā

#which is very easy - itās just FUNNY#you thought we were done learning new material after the final? THINK AGAIN!!!!!!!!#READ THE PYTHON SCRIPT AND WEEP#no but stats was my favorite class this semesterā¦#i still wanna take stats II but i havenāt decided for sure yet#itās a lot of work but itās very straightforward work#as opposed to my environmental and communications courses that involve a lot of opinion#which is fine but can be really tiring when the thing they want my opinion about is stupid or repetitive#like. FOUR courses made me take that one environmental footprint calculator quizā¦#FOUR SEPARATE COURSES#and itās like. iām not saying itās not important - but i GET IT!!!!!!!#at this point itās just a waste of my time - teach me something i donāt already know!#i definitely should have taken a different online program but thatās beside the point#itāll even out once i get my masterās#and iām ultimately happy to have had the ābroaderā education of environmental science (with a communication minor)#bc i think thatāll serve me better in management later in my career#even if it makes early career stuff more difficult

i should probably apply to some classics summer school/program/whatever. i have no money though. and itād have to be onlineā¦ but maybe itād save me from this stupid french university whose classics degree is absolutely useless because weāre not learning anything at all. i need an intensive program or something
idk where to apply though :/ and iām scared itāll be even harder to understand latin/ancient greek if itās taught in english. we donāt even learn declensions with cases in the same orderā¦ but i really need to do something thatāll make me feel like iām actually learning classics and not just wasting my fucking time

Hang on thought about pastry arts school again
#like. why and HOW did i go through 2 full years of college and not graduate with an associates#how did they get away with stringing me along for 1.5+ years as a pastry arts major with no pastry chef#the one pastry class i did have when i met the pastry chef before he quit. it was like. taunting#bc it wasnt extremely new info to me it was baking 101. but the chef was such an amazing teacher#and i was so excited to learn from him#and i cant blame him at all for quitting like bro i wouldn't wanna work there either !!!!#they couldn't hire another pastry chef for almost 2 years bc NO ONE WANTED TO WORK FOR THE PROGRAM HEAD#i know of 2 separate stories where one chef in the area wanted to get into teaching and then heard who the boss chef was and said oh nvm š¬#and one chef who got hired and then quit before he could start bc he couldn't stand to work with that man#like i Know the food service industry is tough and intense and chefs have a reputation for being jerks#i Know that. and multiple people warned me of that before i started. and sometimes im like wow i was wrong i couldn't actually handle it#everyone told me i couldn't handle it and i said yes i could and then i couldn't#but is that really what happened???? bc there were other jerk chefs in that school!! and still no one could stand that ONE MAN!!!!!#we literally complained to the president of the college. and she said uwu hes doing his best š„ŗ#bc thats the thing with him. you think hes nice until you're in the kitchen with him. he IS nice until youre in the kitchen with him#i truly think he designed the course in order to weed out the weak ones#and ig it worked bc so many people dropped out !!!!! but like . sir. i started that program at 17 years old#a fully prepared 17 year old. a smart 17 year old. a talented 17 year old. an eager and excited 17 year old. but a 17 year old#we were learning how to COOK not DISARM BOMBS. i hope hes glad that my 17-19 year old self got weeded out for being weak.#congratulations man you broke me.#literally he gave me the worst panic attack of my life on the first day and was so mean to me bc of my anxiety and how shy i was#to the point that i finally admitted i needed to go to the doctor#and then when i started some meds. and also was OUT OF HIS CLASS. and in the pastry class. and was a little more comfortable#he wanted to take credit for 'bringing me out of my shell' š and i wish i had said what i was thinking. and looked him in the eye#and said thanks its cause of the drugs.#not only were the internship hours insane but also the class hours and the graduating test#i get that the classes have to be longer bc we need time for things to cook but . 8/9 hours ??? dudeeee#obviously i didn't get to the graduating test class thing but the way he described it sounded like torture š#and ofc you cant find that info online before you enroll. and they only offered it in summer#so if you finished in fall you still had to wait through spring to technically graduate. assuming you pass the week long torture test

Me going into that interview powered-up from all the luck and well-wishes from my family and friends like:
#i talk#job talk#I think it went really well!#Despite my body and brain self-sabotaging me by keeping me up until like... 3:30 am last night#The biggest mark against me is the fact that I don't have tons of experience managing a specific program platform#but I (a bit belatedly) reminded them that I have tons of experience doing website management (including our company's website)#so maybe that helps???#There were 3 interviewers which would've been stressful (even if that seems to be the norm now) but I knew all of them#Like. I don't know them SUPER well but I DO know them. As in we've all met and there's no bad blood or anything#So that helped a LOT#Me on my hands and knees like: Please let this be a nepotism hire I need a better paying job so frickin bad#It's hilarious (but mostly extremely depressing) how the first interview I've gotten in YEARS after hundreds of job applicationsā#āis only because it's for a job at a company I already work for. What a mess. And I have almost 10 years of experience in my field#Anyways. It was a virtual interview but I still put makeup on so A) They don't see how dead I look#and because B) My eyeliner really makes my expressions more visible#I actually never wore eyeliner until I started teaching online during the peak of the pandemic / lockdown#I made the same discovery that my eyeliner really makes my expressions more visible and I look friendlier#Which I think helped since my students were all Going through It (I mean; we all were; but good god lockdown was bad for the kids)#So now I just kinda always wear eyeliner when I do makeup. I could probably do it thinner but I'm too lazy to re-learn it#Makeup is an expensive art form but I admire anyone who is dedicated to the practice. It's really cool seeing people do it!#Anyhoo back to work#gif warning
